I don't see the game "dying" anytime soon, but as with any online game, and this one is 7 going on 8 years old, they don't go on forever. not because I came back for (or left back in 2020 because of) submarines, and I am enjoying the game that those numbers remain fairly stable as I want to see the game continue to do well for as long as possible. Hopefully, as someone who has recently returned to the game after a 2-year break, for health reasons. Some people leave because they don't like the changes while those changes will also draw in new players. There has also been flunctiations in player numbers anytime WG has made big changes to WoWs, which is understandable. Sea Lord Mountbatten also points out like Sea Raptor of the boost in server numbers during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown and they also point out the general rise and fall of server numbers, the seasonal flunctions due to holidays, school etc.Īnd I don't disagree that any time their are economic hardships that effect people in large numbers that it reduces the amount of disposable income folks have to spend on entertainment such as gaming. Seems like things will be really bad in Europe, where WG counts on a large percentage of it's profits.Īye. With the economies of most the world going south, I expect this to really hurt industries that rely on disposable income. I'm not saying the game is dying, but I don't think things are going well. I won't be surprised to see this bump to be the lowest relative the other holiday bumps. The question will be how big of a bump will there be over the holidays. We can expect a bump for the fourth quarter with the holiday content. The server numbers are getting close to all time lows. The numbers went up during lockdowns, however, they have been going steadily down since (with the SEA sever being the only exception). I know Sea Raptor looks at the server numbers every quarter.

I haven't had the time to check out either of the videos posted in this discussion yet. He points out the reason for the Russian server drop and also shows that for the NA and EN servers that the numbers are fairly steady. This video from Sea Lord Mountbatten is a much better one regarding the state of WoWs playerbase and the numbers across the servers.
